As a simple rule, use two to three cushions on a two seater sofa, three to five on a three seater, and five to seven on a corner sofa. A double or king size bed usually looks best with two to four cushions, plus a bolster. There is no fixed rule, so leave enough room to sit comfortably.

How many cushions on a sofa?

SofaCushionsA layout to try
2 seater2 to 3Two matching squares, one at each end, or two squares and one rectangle
3 seater3 to 5A pair at each end, with a rectangle cushion in front
4 seater4 to 6A larger pair and a smaller pair, one of each at each end
Corner sofa5 to 7A pair at each end, and two or three in the corner

How do you style cushions on a sofa?

  1. Start at the ends. Place a matching pair at each arm, largest at the back.
  2. Layer by size. Put smaller cushions in front of larger ones. A cushion size guide can help you choose.
  3. Limit the colours. Choose two or three colours that appear elsewhere in the room.
  4. Mix the texture. One plain, one patterned and one with shimmer or piping is usually enough.

Should you use an odd or even number of cushions?

Even numbers with matching pairs look formal and tidy. Odd numbers look more relaxed. Neither is right or wrong, so choose whichever suits your room.

How many cushions on a bed?

Start with your sleeping pillows, then add two square cushions in front of them. Finish with a bolster or a rectangle cushion in the centre. On a king or super king bed, you can add a second pair of squares. A matching bed runner across the foot of the bed completes the look.

Prefer not to choose?

Our styled cushion sets bring together six coordinated cushions, so the matching is done for you. Every piece is handmade to order in Lancashire.
